IFR | International Federation of Robotics

International Federation of Robotics; a meeting point for any manufacturer, integrator, distributor or user of robots or automated systems.

The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) was founded in 1987, coinciding with the seventeenth International Symposium of Robotics, as a non-profit-making professional organization, composed by robotics organizations of more than 15 different countries. Since 1970 it is held an International Robotics Symposium in a different continent, country and town, coinciding with an international robots exhibition.

The purpose of IFR is to promote the research, development, use and international cooperation in the whole robotics field acting as a reference point for companies and official organizations in those activities with regard to the robotics. The IFR has, as one of its main tasks, to supply surveys, studies and statistic data on the worldwide use of robots and similar. Besides, the above federation is carrying out the following :

To sponsor the annual International robotics Symposium
To collaborate to set up worldwide standards
To stimulate the research and development in the new technologies applied to the robotics
To collaborate in a passive and active way with national and international organizations
To promote the application and spreading of the robotics through collaborations with manufacturers, final users, universities, integrators and other interested organizations.

During these 20 years of history the IRF has been adding collaborators. At present more than 10 national Associations of Robotics in the world are active members of IRF (amongst them we can find the Spanish Association of Robotics – AER), as well as more than 20 worldwide suppliers of robots.

Thanks to all this the IRF is, at present, one of the most important robotics associations in the world.

The statistic department of IFR publishes once a year the Worldwide Report of Robotics. This report is a worldwide summary on the sales of robots (independently of the manufacturer or model) in percentages, split in sectors, countries, etc.

This annual publication presents some global statistics as of the industrial robots as the ones of service, being able to see the data per zones and countries. Besides, this publication also informs about detailed statistics data of almost 50 countries, split in sectors within the industry, types of robots, as well as other technical an economic variables. Production data, export and import, density of robots each 10.000 employees, etc.

At the end of last month the statistic department of IRF made the new report of 2007 public, in which, amongst many other data, it is remarkable the figure of 951.000 robots distributed throughout the entire planet.
